Chief Michael Sellers
Chief Sellers has spent his entire law enforcement career with the Santa Clara Police Department and was appointed Assistant Chief in January 2012. Beginning as cadet in 1978, he went on to become a SCPD Reserve Police Officer in 1982. Assistant Chief Sellers was hired as a regular Police Officer in 1982.
Mike has worked a wide variety of assignments including undercover narcotics, SWAT, the Santa Clara County Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) task force, he has been a Field Training Officer and was a charter member of our Special Enforcement Team. He was promoted to sergeant in 1997. As a sergeant, he supervised a patrol team was a member of our Special Response Team, and worked undercover narcotics in our Specialized Crimes Action Team (SCAT).
In 2004 Mike was promoted to lieutenant and worked as the patrol watch commander, special operations, and in services. He was the Reserve Officer coordinator, special event coordinator, Public Information Officer and assisted with the Citizens’ Police Academy.
In 2008, Mike was promoted to captain and took command of the Field Operations Division, an assignment that he enjoyed very much. In July, 2010 he was transferred to the Administrative Services Division. From that position, he was promoted to Assistant Chief in January, 2012. Mike was elected to the Chief's position in November, 2012, and he was sworn in as Chief of Police at the December 18th City Council Meeting.
Mike is a graduate of CSULB and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Studies. Mike is also a graduate of the POST Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and the FBI National Academy.
