| Procedures for the Public Viewing of Megan's Law |
This information is now available on the Attorney General's website.
The Santa Clara Police Department will make available the contents of the online database to any member of the public for viewing at the police department under the following conditions: |
| |
- The applicant must provide proof of identification (CA
driver's license, State ID card, or passport). Law Enforcement
personnel will use this ID to verify that the applicant
is not a sex registrant.
- You must be 18 years old (if you are under 18, you may
view the database in the presence of a parent or guardian).
- You must sign the register for use of the online database.
You will need to provide your name, date and a signature.
Each person viewing the database will be required to sign
the register. This register will be maintained at the front
counter.
- You will also need to sign the Request to View Sexual
Offender Identification Information form. By signing this
form, you attest to the fact that you are not a registered
sex offender, that you understand that the purpose of releasing
this information is to allow members of the public to protect
themselves and their children from sex offenders. You will
also attest to the fact that you know that it is unlawful
to use the information obtained from the database to commit
a crime, discriminate against or harass any registrant.
|
| You will be allowed 15 minutes to view the database. The database will not provide you with the address of any registrant, and you will not be allowed to electronically print anything from the database (you may take handwritten notes). The police department cannot provide the public with any legal advice regarding sex offenders. |
